Well it didn’t take long for someone in the UFC women’s strawweight division to throw their name in the hat as Michelle Waterson’s next opponent. After her first round submission victory over Paige VanZant at UFC Fight Night Sacramento, “The Karate Hottie” told the FOX Sports post-fight show that she wanted a top 5 opponent. It looks like she was heard loud and clear.
Rose Namajunas, a former TUF standout and #4 ranked strawweight, took to her instagram to initiate the challenge as was speculated here at MikeSwick.com.
Rose was enjoying a 3-fight win streak, including her own dominant win over Paige VanZant, before suffering a split decision loss to Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Both Namajunas and Waterson go after it in the cage and this would no doubt be a dream matchup for fight fans.
Waterson made quick work of VanZant and came out of the octagon with barely a scratch on her. While Rose hasn’t fought since July of 2016. Both fighters could be primed and ready to go as early as UFC 208 in Brooklyn unless the UFC wants to give it time to build for UFC 209 which is rumored to have a pretty big card.
Whenever it happens, let’s just hope that it in fact does happen.
