UFC 209 is shaping up to be one hell of a card. Yesterday we broke the news that the main event would feature a UFC 205 rematch between welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and #1 contender Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Their first fight ended in a draw so no one is disappointed to see them run it back.
There has been a constant back and forth between lightweights Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov regarding a possible match at UFC 209 as well. What started out as a war of words, seemingly turned into a confirmed fight via Khabib’s dad on twitter. Now it appears that Ferguson himself is confirming that match on twitter.
USADA came to test Ferguson ahead of the fight and, well, his tweet below clearly sums it up:
USADA Showed Up & I Responded. See You March 4 @TeamKhabib & We Will Settle This Once & For All Inside a The Octagon At #UFC209 pic.twitter.com/Opu4rsgMAW
— Tony Ferguson (@TonyFergusonXT) January 10, 2017
While many people took the tweet from Khabib’s father and ran with it, no official confirmation from the UFC followed. The same holds true today following Ferguson’s tweet.
The UFC website shows only 4 fights so far for UFC 209 (current fight card seen on right), but this revalation by “El Cucy” should change that soon. Both fighters are in the midst of near double digit win streaks and this could very well be an early contender for Fight of the Year.
Stay tuned for an official fight announcement as we will have it for you as soon as it breaks.
