Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg UFC 215 championship fight scrapped.

Demetrious will have to wait to attempt to break Silva’s record.

The UFC injury bug is a real son of a bitch. Another main event title fight bites the dust, as Ray Borg was forced out the UFC 215 main event with an undisclosed illness.  According to a report filed by Ariel Helwani for MMA Fighting, the illness was not associated with Borg’s weight cut, and he’s been battling illness for days.

For Demetrious Johnson it has to be an unbelievable blow. He turned down a fight with TJ Dillashaw in favor of this fight. He was set to break Anderson Silva’s all time consecutive title defense record with 11 had he won. The plan is to rebook the fight as soon as possible. In the meantime, the women’s Bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko is moved into the main event spot.

If you recall, UFC 213 lost the main event in the hours before it took place. Amanda Nunes was forced off the card due to illness. Dana White said, as a result, he would not against book Nunes in the main event. Things have a way of working themselves out at times.

The UFC 215 card now looks like this.
