The awaited return of the icon BJ Penn takes place January 15 at UFC Fight Night. The former UFC Welterweight and Lightweight Champion will be headlining the card against the TUF: Latin America featherweight winner, Yair Rodriguez. This fight will be a good test to see where each fighter stands in their career.
Joe Lauzon will fight Marcin Held. We will see Ben Saunders taking on Court McGee. To finish off the main card is Jimmie Rivera vs Bryan Caraway… Or not.
As I type this, MMA Junkie has reported that Bryan Caraway is out of his fight with Jimmie Rivera, citing a possible shoulder injury.
This was the fight that meant the most on this card, in regards to title implications. Rivera has a 19 fight win streak going and recently defeated the great Urijah Faber. Caraway looked extremely impressive in his previous 2 wins. Victories over Aljamain Sterling and Eddie Wineland put him in a position for the title. I expect that fight would have been very fan friendly. This is all history now.
The UFC have 2 weeks to find a replacement for Jimmie. If they can’t and the fight gets scrapped, Rivera will have to enjoy the Fight Night from his sofa. Let’s hope the #8 bantamweight in the world is able to get an opponent, within the next 2 weeks.
Fingers crossed for Rivera.
Guys are already starting to line up on Twitter.
