As we near closer to the UFC’s first event of 2017 this coming Sunday, it is being reported that the promotion is pulling the plug on its second cancelled event.
The UFC schedule shows an event set for March 3rd in Las Vegas, one night before UFC 209. No fights for the event, which was set to air on Fight Pass, were set and no word on if any tickets were already sold.
The UFC previously cancelled it’s January 21st event in Anaheim, California, that was originally carded as UFC 208 (UFC 208 has since been attached to Brooklyn).
A reason has not yet been given for the cancellation but one has to wonder if smaller events such as this one might soon become a rarity. With the huge amount of money looming over the head of the new owners, it’s possible these Fight Pass shows could become fewer and far between. Without pay-per-view buys or being part of a TV deal, these shows might not be financially worth it (this is of course just a theory).
We will update this story as more details become available.
