UFC plans summer event in Singapore

The UFC announced plans for its first event in Asia this year. On June 17th, UFC Fight Night will take place in Singapore, marking the promotion’s second time there in the past few years.

Joe Carr, senior vice president of international business for the UFC, said in a release:

“We are very excited to kick off our 2017 Asia event calendar with UFC Fight Night Singapore. Singapore is the home of our Asia headquarters and as such has always been a key market in our strategy to grow the UFC brand and the sport of MMA in the ASEAN region.”

UFC last held an event in Singapore in January of 2014. The event was headlined by Tarec Saffiedine vs. Hyun Gyu Lim, a bout Saffiedine won by unanimous decision. Also on the card was current UFC interim featherweight champion Max Holloway, who scored a 2nd round TKO victory over Will Chope. A significant win for Holloway as it was the first win of his current 10-fight win streak, following a unanimous decision loss to Conor McGregor.

With Dana White hinting recently that an event in South Korea was possibly in the cards, it appears as if the UFC is looking to have a nice imprint in Asia in the 2nd half of the year.

UFC Fight Night Singapore will take place June 17, from the the Singapore Indoor Stadium. No bouts have been announced yet.
