Ovince St Preux welcomes UFC newcomer Volkan Oezdemir at Fight Night 104

Volkan Oezdemir will be looking to win his promotional debut against OSP

Fight Night 104 is this Saturday night, and one of the potential interesting fights features UFC newcomer Volkan Oezdemir taking on Ovince St Preux.  The two light heavyweights will clash on Fox Sports 1 as part of the main card.  The card is flying somewhat under the radar, despite some really interesting fights.

Ovince St Preux (19-9) needs a win, badly.  He’s lost consecutive fights and three of his last four.  There is a notion that every fight in the UFC is a must win but for St Preux, this definitely fits the bill.  There are not a lot of fighters who can survive three losses in a row in the current UFC landscape.  It’s hard to imagine his UFC career could be in jeopardy considering he fought for the UFC Light Heavyweight championship less than a year ago.  Such is life in the unforgiving sport of MMA.

Making his debut in the UFC, Volkan Oezdemir will be looking to make a splash.  Volkan (12-1) has a knack for finishing his opponents. In his twelve wins, ten of them have come via stoppage.  Nine of those were TKOs and only one was by submission.  It’s unknown if he utilized the Volkan death grip. (I kid.)  He seems to like to throw his hands, and considering he’s been training with the Blackzilians, you know he’s dangerous.

Oezdemir will have a slight reach disadvantage but he should be able to find his range.  He’s a moderate underdog heading into this fight, but I believe this is a fight that is tailor made for his style.  He has good striking, and if he gets into a clinch, his knees are devastating.  His ground and pound is also really strong, and that complete game makes him dangerous for St Preux.
