It doesn’t take long for these things to happen in MMA anymore. One day you have a top contender fight and the next, you are scrambling to find a marquee matchup. Yoel Romero revealed to Ariel Helwani that he needed time to recover from orbital bone surgery and his fight with Paulo Costa at Madison Square Garden is off.
Strangely, Romero is a bit heated about the whole situation, which doesn’t make too much sense. However, a lot of times this is a way that fighters try and stay motivated for what they may encounter in the future.
It sounds like he and Paulo will meet up at a later date. Only time will tell.
Yoel Romero isn’t fighting at MSG. (👃)
Anyway, the plan is for him to fight in 4-5 months after he recovers from orbital bone surgery.
Here’s @YoelRomeroMMA’s message to Paulo Costa.
