Unfortunately, Shogun had to withdraw from the main event in Japan.
Shogun Rua and Ovince Saint Preux were set to meet for the second time in the main event of UFC Fight Night 117 in Saitama, Japan this Saturday. However, an injury forced Rua off of the card and now it seems Yushin Okami is stepping back into the UFC. He’s also stepping into the main event slot. An injured knee has sidelined Rua.
Okami (34-10) has been working outside of the UFC since 2013 when he lost a fight at Fight Night 28 to Jacare Souza. He’s been out in other organizations and has put together a record of 5-2 during that stretch. He will step back into the Octagon in a big way, as he’ll headline a card with Ovince Saint Preux.
Ovince Saint Preux (20-10) is a talented Light Heavyweight who went through a bit of a slump. He dropped three in a row before rebounding. In his last outing, however, he defeated Marcos de Lima by Submission.
The co-main event is a highly anticipated flyweight contest between Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Andrade. Takanori Gomi is also on the card which will please the hometown fans. Also, making his UFC debut is kickboxing legend Gokhan Saki.
